Sureway International Christian
Our History
Sureway International Christian Ministries was founded in 1906, as one of the first “Pentecostal churches in the United Kingdom”. This church has its roots and development in the Pentecostal revival that started at the dawn of the 20th century. Approaching the close of the 19th century, the emergence of economic, moral and political influence on the Christian frontier worldwide increased to alarming proportions. This influence of the world on the churches took many forms – departure from the faith, formalism, believers based on church membership rather than spiritual birth, etc. The effect of all these was that the spiritual state of Christendom reached a very low ebb while complacency and sophistication amassed in the denominations. Not least affected was the way in which ministers of God were obligated to be trained in academic and theological schools. God’s answer to this erosion in Christendom was the Pentecostal revival, which culminated in the early 20th Century.
In response to the Pentecostal revival, Brother Thomas Kwaw Brem-Wilson who had gone to Wales to catch the fire of revival from the late Evan Roberts of the Welsh revival with Brother Newlands gathered together other devout men and women and formed one of the first Pentecostal churches in London in 1906.
Starting as a schoolmaster of a missionary school in Ghana – West Africa, Brother Thomas Kwame Brem-Wilson became the first pastor of one of the first Pentecostal Churches in London. The church later became known as Summer Road Chapel in 1906 and ultimately came under the auspices of Assemblies of God in the UK and Ireland.

In keeping with the mandate of the Great Commission, Sureway International Christian Ministries sets forth as its mission to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, to evangelise the unsaved, to make a positive impact in society, and to support world missions. Head Pastors (Past & Present)
Rev. Charles Cortson <span class="eurostile_font">1942-1952</span>
Charles Cortson was offered the pastorate of the Peckham church in 1942. Undertaking this responsibility, he laboured faithfully over the next ten years and saw the blessing of God upon his ministry; evident in the growth of the church both numerically and spiritually, it was during this time that Ronald Eske came to know the Lord!
Rev. Dr. Steve Armah <span class="eurostile_font">2009-Present</span>
The current Senior Minister and General Overseer of Sureway International Christian Ministries worldwide. He is a visionary who has a passion for the well-being of the body of Christ. Prior to his calling into ministry, Reverend Steve was a successful Sailor/Marine Engineer travelling around the five continents. He settled in England and graduated from Spurgeon Bible College.
Rev. William Golding <span class="eurostile_font">1952-1960</span>
When Pastor Charles Cortson went on to be with the Lord in 1952, William Golding who had been assisting him for several years was asked to take the helm of the Ministry. He was Pastor until 1959, when he found it necessary to move on. However, it was not before he had contacted the Assemblies of God Bible School who recommended Terry Lewis for pastoral succession.
Rev. Brem-Wilson <span class="eurostile_font">1855-1929</span>
The key founder of our fellowship, Rev Brem. Wilson was a man with outstanding spirituality. Previously a Ghanaian businessman Rev Brem Wilson was amongst the 1st baptized in the Holy Spirit during the inception of Pentecostalism in Britain. He led the church till his death in April 1929.
Rev. Terry Lewis <span class="eurostile_font">1960-1962</span>
Terry Lewis was only able to pastor the Peckham Assemblies of God church for a period of 18 moths due to his passion for Mission work; particularly in Pakistan. Nonetheless during his leadership he rendered his absolute best. He became firm friends with Ronald Eske and working together the Lord was, unbeknown to either of them, preparing Ronald Eske for the Pastorate of the Church.
Rev Ronald H. Eske <span class="eurostile_font">1962-2009</span>
At a time when Sureway international Christian Ministries (SICM) then known as Sumner Road Chapel was at a desperate stage in its history, Reverend Ron who was employed as an electrical engineer was invited to take the pastorate of the Church. it was much later that he left his secular employment to fill the position on a full time basis.
